More than 100 people filed through and toured the Mont Belvieu Area Chamber of Commerce Business Center Thursday evening, marking a first for the 40-year-old organization – its very on permanent headquarters.
Operating at 3400 square feet and taking a little more than a year to complete, the facility marks a milestone achievement and the promise for greater community service.
In fact, Camber President/CEO Macie Schubert said many times, “it’s not our building, it’s your building.”
It was a theme of this week’s official ribbon cutting celebration.
“I feel like we are just stewards,” Schubert explained as some of the considerable hoopla was calming down. “This allows for so many extra opportunities for small businesses. We have an open, available, vacant office, so if members need to have meetings, interviews, anything like that, they can borrow our office.”
There is also a small meeting room for more opportunities, a perk not available at previous temporary homes of the Chamber.
The day was celebrated by numerous members of Mont Belvieu municipal leaders, along with elected Chambers County representatives and presentations from the area’s elected representative and senator in Austin.
Schubert wants current Chamber members and future members to know their doors are always open.
“We want this to be a place where they can collaborate and support one another,” she said. “This is just the beginning, with more to come. Y’all can always come here, grab a cup of coffee, network, and support one another.”
The dream of a permanent Chamber home goes back to the early 2000s.
According to Schubert, the land at 2822 North FM 565 in Mont Belvieu was deeded to the Chamber, which made the project a reality.
“That was such a huge gift,” she recalled. “The location cannot be any better, right across from City Hall and down from (Texas Highway) 99. It was such a generous gift. Once that happened, we said this is going to be our permanent home. The expressions on everyone’s faces today was great. I can’t even describe it. It is so awesome.”
