PORT ARTHUR – Daniel Misko of ExxonMobil shared some impressive safety numbers when speaking Thursday/Sept. 19 to hundreds of representatives of local industry and construction.
The Golden Triangle Business Roundtable Board chairman was leading the 33rd GTBR Contractor Safety Awards Banquet and had reason for celebration.
The people and companies highlighted represented 116 nominations from 18 owner facilities and 57 contractor companies.
This represents more than 23 million work hours with a combined total recordable incident rate of less than .06, which is well under the national average of .3.
“It proves the safety performance of the industries of Southeast Texas collectively represent a competitive advantage of the Golden Triangle area,” Misko said.
“Considering the current growth rate of industrial expansions and the contributions of Southeast Texas industries to the overall economic benefit of the nation’s fuel, petroleum and petrochemical products, those metrics are simply unprecedented. It’s an accomplishment that needs to be recognized.”
H.B. Neild Construction received three safety nominations, one each from Dow Sabine River Operations, ExxonMobil Polyethylene Plant and ExxonMobil Blending and Packaging.
Safety Director Quais “Q” Savoir credited Golden Triangle Business Roundtable for “profoundly” proclaiming to all organizations and companies the value of safety, personnel and information filtering across platforms.
“It’s a huge honor on H.B. Neild’s side to accept these nominations and an honor to be part of GTBR,” he added.
HSE Manager Andrew Jones said the recognitions speak volumes about H.B. Neild Construction’s commitment to safety and dedication to make sure everyone goes home the same the way they came into work.
“All the honor goes to those guys and what they bring to the field, what they bring to our clients and what they bring back into the community as far as safety and their commitment to safety,” Jones added.
HSE Manager Carl Certa said everybody coming together and working as a team, safely, helps assure a positive outcome each day.
“It really means a lot to get the recognition that the work is noticed,” he said. “It is very much appreciated.”
The Golden Triangle Business Roundtable’s awards banquet has become an annual and important Southeast Texas tradition since its inception in 1991 with a goal to support safety improvement and welfare of contract employees working within regional facilities.
